The Archbishop Nicholas (280-342 A.D.), popularly known as Santa Claus, is the patron saint of children and travelers, and is one of the most popular saints, especially for Eastern Catholics and the Orthodox. The cross often associated with him is an Eastern Orthodox style cross superimposed on a budded cross with the acronym IC XC.
In Greek, the language of many early Christians, Ic are iota and sigma, the first and last letters of Jesus, Xc are chi and sigma, the first and last letters of Christ.
